Job Description

Lindsay Saker VW Midrand is offering an Accredited Competency Based Modular Training (CBMT) Apprenticeship to qualified candidates. This program combines on-the-job training (OJT) with classroom instruction, all under the guidance of a Qualified Motor Vehicle Mechanic. The theoretical education component is provided by the Motus Technical Training Academy (MTTA).

Specific Role Responsibilities

Candidates will enter into a CBMT contract with merSETA and a learnership agreement with Lindsay Saker VW Midrand, which will include all relevant terms and conditions. The minimum wage standards set by MIBCO will apply to CBMT Apprentices.

Training Program

• Levels 1 – 4: 4-year contract
• Training at MTTA for 5 days within a 5-week period.
• Distance learning program – CDX, which enhances the apprenticeship experience through interactive demonstrations, tutorials, quizzes, and practical exercises accessible online, both at the workplace and during personal study time.
• Computer-based assessments and examinations.
• Practical competency evaluations.
• MIBCO compliance.
• On-the-job experience in the Lindsay Saker VW Midrand Service department, aligned with the competencies achieved through the CBMT program. Apprentices will gather evidence to complete their portfolio as required by ITTA, working alongside a designated technician to learn how to conduct quality service maintenance and repairs according to the original manufacturer’s specifications. Completion of the portfolio of evidence will include inspecting, maintaining, and repairing vehicles under the supervision of a qualified technician.

Qualifications and Experience

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must possess the following qualifications:

• Matriculation certificate (with Mathematics and Physical Science) or N2 qualification (including Mathematics, Engineering Science, and English with a minimum of 50%).
• Valid driver’s license.
• Proficiency in computer skills.
• Candidates must successfully complete a mechanical insight test.
• The candidate will undergo standard background checks prior to being eligible for the subsequent stage of the selection process.
• Additionally, a medical evaluation will be conducted to determine their fitness for employment.

Successful candidates will then participate in a psychometric assessment followed by an in-person interview.
