Requirements:
- A law degree (NQF level 7 recognized by SAQA) is essential, along with 3 to 5 years of pertinent experience in the consumer protection sector.
Duties:
- Develop and implement consumer protection strategies, policies, frameworks, procedures, and systems.
- Provide guidance on matters related to consumer protection.
- Compile monthly reports that include statistical data and narratives on cases, evaluations, status determinations, and monetary assessments.
- Evaluate complaints and prepare preliminary assessment reports.
- Conduct compliance monitoring inspections within the province to ensure adherence to consumer protection legislation by businesses.
- Collect information and contribute insights on consumer protection issues.
- Provide data for trend analysis.
- Receive and assess complaints to verify their validity and identify necessary interventions.
- Investigate and mediate claims of unfair business practices in accordance with applicable legislation.
- Send the initial correspondence to the supplier within seven working days of receiving the complaint.
- Perform physical inspections at the supplier’s premises.
- Facilitate formal mediation and conciliation sessions between the complainant and the supplier.
- Draft settlement agreements.
- Prepare and issue comprehensive closing letters. Escalate and follow up on unresolved cases.
- Draft investigation reports.
- Conduct additional investigations on unresolved complaints as necessary.
- Update the status and outcomes in the complaints management system.
- Upload relevant supporting documents during case management.
- Manage and maintain the consumer complaints database.
- Engage with the public and stakeholders to address inquiries that may arise during workshops.
- Collaborate with Consumer Protection Agencies to carry out unannounced inspections of suppliers’ business premises for compliance purposes.
